Prvi dan Osme letnje škole mehanike loma (IFMASS 8) je održan 23. juna 2003. Prisustvovalo je oko 90 učesnika i predavača. Svečano otvaranje je počelo govorom ministra za nauku i tehnologiju prof. Dragana Domazeta. On je pozdravio sve učesnike i poželeo uspešan rad.

U prepodnevnom programu je održano tri predavanja:

1.     "Physical and mathematical aspects of fracture mechanics", Prof. Jovo Jaric, Prof. Aleksandar Sedmak
2.     "Enhancement of fracture toughness due to energy screening effect in early stages of non-elastic failure", Prof. Michael Wnuk
3.     "Development of experimental testing of crack behaviour", Prof. John Landes.

Od 13.00 do 16.00 je održan svečani ručak.

Popodnevni program rada je obuhvatio sledeća predavanja:

4.     "The role of fracture mechanics parameters in reliability assessment of engineering structures operating under different loading conditions", Prof. Laszlo Toth
5.     "Charpy impact testing and its application in fracture mechanics", Docent Gyöngyvér Lenkey
6.     "A contribution of fracture mechanics to material design", Prof. Aleksandar Radovic, Prof. Nenad Radovic.
