Abstract Welded joint as a complex and heterogeneous structure presents a critical point in the welded structure. Therefore, welded joint structural safety is estimated based on properties of the whole welded joint and all of its components. The most common way to evaluate welded joint behaviour is by comparing the properties of base metal (BM), heat affected zone (HAZ) and weld metal (WM), but in a number of cases the behaviour of the whole welded joint differs from the behaviour of weld metal, heat affected zone and base metal.
