Abstract

A review is given of Construction Products Directive CPD89/106/EEC. This Directive is brought in the aim to provide free circulation of products that conform to the safety level determined by European Community member states. The basic principle of the new approach is limitation in harmonization of the legislation only for essential requirements for which public interest exists, in a way that does not jeopardize the safety of persons, domestic animals and property, besides the fulfilment of other necessary requirements of general interest. Essential requirements that are reviewed are implemented in structural civic engineering materials and construction. The means of adoption and implementation of harmonized standards are explained. Specific legislative obligations of manufacturers are pointed out, when required, with the view of acquiring or issuing certificates for conformity of product quality, declarations on the conformity of quality and means of CE marking.
