DESIGN OF A TIMBER BEAM WITH HOLES WITH THE HELP OF EUROCODE 5 Philippe Jodin Laboratory of Mechanical Reliability, University of Metz and National School of Engineering (ENIM), Metz, France |
Abstract EUROCODE 5 is the European design code to be used for timber structures. It allows designing most of structures. However, some of them are not considered by the code. This is the case for a bending beam with holes. Some authors proposed a design function for that case. Verification by finite element computation of the proposed design shows that large errors could be made that may lead to dangerous situations. The object of this paper is to propose a design method that follows the rules of EC5 to ensure a better safety of the structure. Keywords: timber structures, Eurocodes, finite elements, holes |
